Colorado Mesa University Olympians to be Honored at Homecoming Parade

As part of CMU's Homecoming celebration on Saturday, October 19, three of the university's most distinguished athletes, who represented their countries in the 2024 Paris Olympics, will make a special appearance in the 2024 Homecoming parade. Cyclist Olivia Cummins, swimmer Harry Stacey, and triathlete Emma Meyers are set to be honored for their outstanding achievements on the global stage.

Cummins, a standout member of CMU’s cycling team, made history as part of the five-person Team USA squad that claimed gold in the women's track cycling team pursuit event. Her skill, resiliency and teamwork helped propel her to be among the highest performing athletes in the world, marking a significant milestone in her young career.

Harry Stacey, an exceptional freshmen recruit at CMU, proudly represented Ghana in the men's 100-meter freestyle. His Olympic journey not only brought attention to his talent but also to Ghana's growing presence in international swimming. Stacey’s courage to travel across the globe to compete at the highest level and then to Grand Junction to call the Grand Valley home, is inspiration for both CMU and the broader community alike.

Emma Meyers, a CMU triathlete, has already achieved remarkable success in her young career. At just 18 years old, she was the youngest of the 15 elite paratriathletes to compete in the 2024 Paralympics. Representing Team USA, Meyers’ curiosity, dignity and grit have earned her a spot among the world’s top athletes in her sport.

These Olympians, who embody the Maverick spirit, will join the Homecoming parade as honored guests, offering the community the chance to celebrate their incredible accomplishments. Don’t miss this opportunity to cheer on our very own Olympians right here in western Colorado as they take their well-deserved place in CMU history.

The Homecoming parade starts at 10am on October 19 on Main Street in downtown Grand Junction.
